Where did that puppy in the window come from?

PUPPY MILLS

Puppy mills/pet stores count on people being uneducated about dogs and buying on impulse because the puppies are cute.

What is a puppy mill? Get the facts on puppy mills and find out what you can do.
Do you know where that puppy in the window came from ? How about that kitten in the window or the ad you just read “Kittens for sale”? How about that parrot in the window? Never buy a mass-marketed bird from a pet store! You can submit a request for us to research where your puppy came from. Because you deserve to know the truth!
Are you thinking about buying a puppy? - Buyer Beware!
Puppy mill dogs are sold even in the swankiest of pet stores and through the most picturesque of web sites. The truth is, unless you personally visit the place where your dog is born and raised, you have no real way of knowing whether you’re supporting a puppy mill. Puppy millers have devised slick new methods for hiding their cruel businesses. They regularly place newspaper ads that hawk one specific breed (instead of the old approach of exclaiming, “We have over 20 different breeds!”) to fool consumers into thinking the mill is actually a small operation. Rule No.1 is always: Never buy a puppy without personally visiting the breeder’s premises. Read the Five easy steps to avoid a puppy mill for more information.

Have you purchased a puppy and shortly after you brought him/her home, found out he/she was sick. You tell the pet store and the pet store says, "We can trade it for another one." Most people have fallen in love with that puppy and will not trade it in. The puppy has become part of the family. Did you know that you can file a Breeder Complaint Form if your new puppy appears to be suffering from a medical condition.

One Sick puppy - A Cautionary Tale. The advertisement in the New Jersey newspaper caught Rosa D'Ascoli's attention: dogs for sale from "professional breeders," $99 and up, all shots included, training provided.

Pet Pals, Inc. Doggie In The Window - Warning: very graphic. This is were some local Alabama pet stores get their dogs. Unless the breeding STOPS, here is what is taking place. MILLIONS of nice pets are being killed annually.

Prisoners of Greed - Hundreds of thousands of dogs suffer in puppymills in this country. They are prisoners of greed. A Puppy mill is a business, the facility is designed purely for profit, not comfort. The dogs are locked in small cages. They freeze in the winter and swelter in the summer. They never get out of their prisons. They are bred over and over again until they die.
