Baton Rouge, LA  Animal Protection & Welfare SocietyA.P.A.W.S - is an all volunteer group of people who are dedicated to ensuring that all pet animals in and around the Baton Rouge area live in homes which provide for all of the animal's physical and emotional needs.  Since we have no shelter at this time, our foster animals live in homes or at the vet offices. Lafayette, LA  Animal Rescue Foundation - ARF is a small group of concerned individuals that provide care and housing for abandoned or unwanted animals in Lafayette Parish and the surrounding area. Space in our shelter facility is limited.  Volunteers and Donations needed!

Metairie, LA  Vet Adoptions - We are focused on rescuing animals off the streets of the city who face no other alternative but a slow painful death due to heartworms and diseases or euthanasia from local animal control facilities.  We are a no-kill agency that does not euthanize animals due to lack of space or time.

Bird Adoption Groups  - BirdAdoption.org - Bird Adoption - Adopt a parrot or another captive bird instead of contributing to the homeless bird problem by buying from a breeder. Educate yourself on proper bird care BEFORE adopting a bird. They make difficult, demanding 'pets' because they are wild animals!

Sulphur, LA  Animal Angels -  is a small group of people in the Calcasieu Parish area that has undertaken the task of reducing the over population of cats. We accomplish this by use of the TAR program (trap, alter, release).  To adopt a kitten/cat or puppy/dog from Animal Angels, you must read and fill out an adoption agreement.

Blind Dog Rescue - Owners of dogs that are blind or visually impaired canines.  Information on joining the blind dog email list.  

Breed OrderDog rescue groups are in breed order from this point down.  If you don't find the breed you are looking for, try contacting several of the rescue groups and animal shelters and ask them where you can find the breed you are looking for.  Most likely, somebody will be able to help you.  Some rescues will rescue other breeds other than what they specialize in.  So tell them, what your looking for and see if they can find that breed through their network of connections.  

American Eskimo Dog Rescue, Inc - We are an all-volunteer nationwide American Eskimo dog rescue organization with chapters in many states throughout the country, and we are always adding more. We rescue stray, orphaned, unwanted or abused Eskies from humane societies, pounds, shelters, etc.  We can also be found on Petfinder.com in Colorado, Connecticut, Florida, Illinois, Louisiana, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Ohio, South Carolina, Tennessee and Washington state.  We need volunteers, transporters and foster homes.  View some of the animals we have for adoption HERE.

Costal White German Shepherd Rescue Referral, Inc - White German Shepherd Rescue. Dogs and puppies. Coastal is a not-for-profit organization that helps GSD rescues save and vet white German shepherd dogs and puppies by offering the rescue groups and shelters a courtesy listing of their wgs dogs, in hopes they find a safe, new home, or are placed in safe, temporary foster care until they find a permanent, forever home. Coastal WGSDRR is also dedicated to raising funds to assist rescue groups in paying for expensive vetting care so that heartworm positive dogs, or dogs who need surgery stand a better chance of getting rescued, treated, and adopted.  We offer services in the south coastal states, Alabama, California, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Maryland, Mississippi, Nebraska, North Carolina, South Carolina,  Texas, Virginia, Washington DC, and West Virginia shelters.  

Louisiana Irish Setter Rescue - Magnolia Setter Rescue works in conjunction with the Florida All-Setter Rescue. Southern Star Miniature Pincher Rescue, Inc   - Southern Star MinPin Rescue, Inc. (SSMPR) is dedicated to the rescue, rehabilitation and re-homing of Miniature Pinschers (minpins) of all ages. Upon entering our care, each Miniature Pincher is evaluated for general health and updated on vaccinations. Southern States Rescued Rottweilers   -  is an organization devoted to helping Rottweilers in the Southern States. We currently cover 11 states throughout the South: Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, Northern Florida, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, and the Virginia Peninsula.  

Schnauzer Rescue of Louisiana  - We currently do not have a shelter facility. All our pets are currently held in foster homes.  Donations, Volunteers and Foster homes needed!!

Louisiana Sheltie Rescue - Sheltie Rescue of Louisiana originated in Southeast Louisiana. We are a small group of volunteers that give of our time, ability and even our homes to help place Shelties where they will be cared for and loved.  Most of the dogs in rescue come from animal shelters where they are disposed of by their owners, or they are picked up as strays.  

Weimaraner Rescue of North Texas  - rescues weimaraners from animal shelters and dogs found stray or abandoned.  We will ONLY consider Adoption Applications from the five state area including: Arkansas, Louisiana, New Mexico, Oklahoma, and Texas.  View some of the animals we have for adoption HERE .

Weimaraner Rescue of the South  - We are a non-profit 501c-3 organization dedicated to finding homes for abandoned or displaced weimaraners in AL, eastern LA, MS, TN, & the Atlanta, GA area.  Since Hurricane Katrina we have had more displaced dogs than ever, and our adoption applications have reduced in numbers. We are, for the first time, not able to take in any more needy Weimaraners due to the lack of foster homes and money to even board those in dire strates.
